Many Hands Make Light Work? A Peer-To-Peer Fundraising Case Study

posted on February 21, 2019

Speaker: Tiffany Albright – Modern fundraising is a minefield. With more tools than every, more potential audiences than ever, and seemingly less time than ever, how are you supposed to decide where to put your resources? Peer-to-peer fundraising tools and platforms have been lauded as a quick and easy way to engage current supporters and find new one. During this session, we’ll cut through the hype share how the North Carolina Theatre Conference engages their board and supporters in an annual peer-to-peer campaign, and lessons they’ve learned over the past four years. You’ll learn whether this style of fundraising is right for you, where they fit in an overall development plan, and how to apply these lessons to your next campaign.

Tiffany Albright
Tiffany is a director, producer, and writer based in Greensboro, NC. She has worked both as a freelance artist and staff member with organizations like the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, Communities in Schools, and Triad Stage. She now serves at the Marketing Manager for the North Carolina Theater Conference. Her primary interests are in expanding arts access for all audiences and in finding ways to more closely align not-for-profit arts organizations with the needs of their communities.

Creative Crowdfunding

posted on February 22, 2018

Rebekah Miel, otherwise known as Durham’s Lunch Lady, has successfully crowdfunded almost $100k in less than a year for various causes including Durham’s School Lunch Debt Pay Down. Come find out some of her tips and tricks about how to run a successful campaign, how to keep donors engaged, and which tools help make the process go more smoothly. There will be practical tips, a handout of resources, and she’ll walk you through a successful case study. You’ll also learn how she translated her skills as a graphic designer and marketer into her role as a fundraiser.

Rebekah Miel
Rebekah Miel is that lone pair of headlights driving in the opposite direction during a hurricane evacuation. You’ll no longer find her sweating through a Tyvek suit in the lower 9th or eating curry in a refugee camp in Unawatuna, but that doesn’t mean she’s any less risk adverse. These days she’s balancing the death defying feat of raising twins with the act of listening hard for how to be a good citizen in her adopted hometown of Durham, NC. Her current job title is Creative Director of her own shop, Miel Design Studio where she spends most of her time trying to make beautiful sense out of a complex world. Ask her what that means, but don’t be surprised if the answer has something to do with books or school lunch.

7 Things to Consider when Choosing A Nonprofit Crowdfunding Platform

posted on May 28, 2016

Crowdfunding is the practice of raising small amounts of money from a large number of people. It’s an increasingly popular and valuable fundraising tool for charitable nonprofits.

Choosing the best crowdfunding platform for your organization can be overwhelming. Use this guide as a resource to help.

  1. BRANDING: Make sure the crowdfunding platform you choose allows you to utilize your branding.
  1. ADMINISTRATIVE TIME-SAVERS: Look for the platform that works the hardest for you.
  1. SOCIAL NETWORKING: You’ll want to drive a lot of traffic to your campaign.
  1. FUNDRAISING PAGES: Does the platform have a limit to the number of fundraising pages that can be created?
  1. PRICING: Make sure all fees are clearly outlined and not hidden. Are you able to enter your cash and check donations into the platform so they’re counted in your goal?
  1. PAYMENT GATEWAYS: Consider choosing a platform that has the ability to securely store credit card information from your donors so you can shift payment gateways as you find one that works best for you.
  1. CUSTOMER SUPPORT: Find out how to contact customer service and a typical response time.
